Kitchens

I have built a variety of kitchens and office millwork over the years. These are some of the highlights.

This kitchen features laminate , painted MDF, and stainless steel  construction. This counter goes through a wall opening to allow folks to visit while meals are prepared

This shot shows the path through the kitchen and I am told all this counter space is great for preparing large meals and baking. Below a dead smooth cooktop with touch controls is set into the rich blue countertop. Stainless steel laminate cover the drawer and door fronts and there is also the backsplash of the same material. All my countertops  are made by me and all feature plywood construction. The flooring is a similar color of Battleship linoleum.

The cabinet doors and drawers that are not clad in stainless or painted MDF are clad in a Formica Seisel laminate and use stainless steel pulls

Beside the oven is a stainless clad pullout pantry

Lately I have been building most space below the counter as  large deep drawers for pots and pans and clusters of shallower drawers  that are not as deep as traditional kitchens making it easier to organize the stuff you use everyday and get rid of the potential excessive junk collection. This drawer is tall and deep for cookie sheets etc.

I ALWAYS use full extension drawer glides!

This kitchen is a refit of an existing kitchen in a very old house. There was a bit of a budget issue as it needed a full gut and strip. The walls were old plaster and lathe that had plenty of cracks. To cover a multitude of sins I pumped glue into any cracks and loose plaster and clad all the walls to the ceiling with subway tile. The effect is very classy feeling!

All the upper cabinets were saved and I added a crown molding along all the tops to replace the ugly filler that had been at the top. The crown was a good match to the existing trim over the doors

I had to build a new lower cabinet here as the old one was just not usable anymore. It let us put in a  new dishwasher and raise the window which sat maybe only 30” off the floor . All the doors are painted with a silver Hammertone finish and pulled by stainless pulls.

My trademark deep drawers of heavy duty full extension glides and a new vinyl click floor

There is a new bulkhead above this stove that you can see in the top photo set of this kitchen that gave me a place to hide the duct for the range hood and some pot lights. Future renovations have the refrigerator moving into a renovated rear porch that will become part of the kitchen. The space where the fridge was will have a new cabinet that nestles up to the stove

Another major renovation to an old house this room started by demolishing the wall that separated the two rooms. This coincided with a new bathroom upstairs and the dropped celling allowed the major ducting, plumbing, and wiring rerouting necessary. It also gave the opportunity to install a whack of potlights!

The long overhanging counter is popular with guests as well as Mom to keep her eye on little hands working on projects. This space completely changed the dynamics of the house. The stunning pottery is by Duane Perkins.

This is another painted MDF kitchen. This type of construction allows a huge color palette only limited by your imagination. The island features more large pot and pan drawers as well as more of my trade mark “drawers to fit useful stuff in”. All on full extension glides.

This is a kitchen I built many years ago that has stood well to the test of time. It is also a painted MDF kitchen, but this time was painted using automotive base/clear coat paint and sprayed in an automotive spray booth. The results speak for themselves.

This shot shows the ripply texture of the glass in the doors. Note the use of Blum 170 degree hinges where ever possible

This bathroom features freestanding millwork with glass inserts in the doors and drawer fronts. The sink cabinet features a stone countertop

This was a kitchen I fabricated in a borrowed space on the west coast in the fall/winter of 2017/2018. The doors are a gloss plastic abs sheet bonded to an MDF core. While trickey to work with as you can see it was well worth the effort. The back splash are subway tiles. I generally make everything below the counter a deep drawer so one is not their hands and knees and reaching in the back for something. All drawer use 150 lb full extension glides and all doors swing 170 degrees where possible on Blum hinges...

The two large doors beside the fridge are pull out pantrys with lots of storage. The  large  deep porcelain sink is a favorite with the new owners....

This is a kitchen with two people who like to cook and as such each has their own set of knives and utensils unique their individual style. To that end I built sets of  shallow drawers on each side of the stove to accommodate the tools of each not unlike a mechanics tool box and when  each drawer is laid out it works well indeed......

The island features tremendously large drawers that can eat the largest pots and pans a kitchen can throw at them. The overhang on the right is meant to accommodate a stool or two....
